Just wanted to thank everybody for a terrific forum. The dialogue helped me take the plunge this weekend with a new Savage. After a lot of drive way and neighborhood practice, I ventured out onto a slighly more open road Sunday around 7:00 PM. A cold front had dropped the tempurature to the low 60's and I finally got to use my old leather jacket for what it was intended. The moon was rising with clearing skies as I screwed up my courage and topped out just shy of 40 MPH :-) It was only my second day and I realize I have a lot to learn. I found some buddies who ride to help me, and I'm also on the waiting list for a rider safety course.
Can't believe I waited to my mid-forties to do this. The Savage was a pure joy and thanks to everybody here, nothing surprized me.
Best part is the wife picked up her motorcycle handbook at the license bureau - probably to keep me out of trouble :-)
Props to the Cleveland Motorcycle Company for great patience with a total novice.
